Though known by several names, HAKABOHU has been owned by the Elvington family for two generations. When mom Susan first bought it, the store was already known as The Toy Shop. As a former educator, she enjoyed combining her love of education with the world of play--becuase really you can't have one without the other. When grandkids arrived on the scene, Susan decided she was ready to sell. Not ready to see the community without a specialty toy shop, her son Brice and wife Kim bought the business. Until 2022 he kept the name, but then decided it was time for a change.
Brice and Kim's four children are very involved with the store. They help work in the store with tagging and shelving items. They participate in as many events as possible. And they go to the Astra Convention every year to check out everything new in the toy world. In 2022, the store was getting a brand new building and Brice decided this would be the perfect time to also give it a brand new name.
Brice wanted the name to reflect how much this store was a part of his family. He decided to try to find a way to incorporate all of his kids into the name, but with four kids this was quite a feat! He finally settled on using the first two letters of each of their names.
Hampton, Katie Brice, Bowen, and Huntley. And that is how the name HAKABOHU was born!
